I respect Pynchon as a parapolitical writer but his prose is just so suffocating (and I know that’s the point) but I think he sacrifices heart for postmodern density, obscurantism and irony

The noises of lawn mowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, power washers, etc. in the suburbs are way worse than any noise you hear living in the city. Seems to go on and on like an isolated drone sound. I can’t stand it.
