As adults we are supposed to protect children & we fail to do that when we charge them as adults. We know according to adolescent brain development science they are not adults & nothing changes that fact. During a key stage of development we can help them let’s choose that option

Eight years ago today, the United States Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that its 2012 decision in Miller v. Alabama applied retroactively to the more than 2600 individuals previously sentenced to life without parole as children.

Today is a juvenile lifers birthday he is 46 which marks 29 years celebrating behind bars. The real danger in society is us locking up children as adults & locking up adults like they are not redeemable. Human beings are not made to be caged. They are made to be loved.

The irreparable damages caused by solitary confinement are unjustifiable, & have led the United Nations to consider solitary as torture when used over 15 days. But this is often ignored in prisons, where segregation is frequently used as a “solution” to nearly every problem.

In every correctional facility incarcerated individuals should be provided the opportunity to find their passion. Prison is trauma. Prison exposes the prisoner to drugs, violence, psychological brutality and suicide. It ruins families, makes rehabilitation harder and increases reoffending.
