Some academic theologians, folks with terminal degrees who hold academic posts at colleges, universities, and seminaries don't even feel comfortable calling themselves theologians. But then youtubers with a BA in theology (or even less) will call themselves theologians.

The work of a scholar is to develop and publicly showcase a body of knowledge, often to develop a career and a name. The office of theology is different: to act as witness to the body of teaching which the church believes and confesses on the basis of the Word of God.
