I’m editing a German video right now and in it I thought I created the verb “gegooglet” in the moment but as it turns out that’s THE REAL WAY TO SAY GOOGLED This is my new favourite verb in the past tense

I think I often overlook how important it is to get enough sleep and eat well when learning languages (or learning in general, obviously). Today I woke up earlier but well rested and it turns out that I don't suck at French.

A lady just came up to me and said “Speak English, we are in San Diego.” So I politely responded by asking her “how do I say ‘San Diego’ in English?” The look of bewilderment on her face made it feel like a Friday.

Repeat after me: LATINO PATIENTS ARE NOT ILLITERATE BC THEY DON’T SPEAK ENGLISH. Stop using “health literacy” as an excuse for not wanting to take the time to explain things thoroughly to your non-English speaking pts. Use an interpreter. Provide the necessary details. Ty.

That's it...I've accepted that it's not a matter of "if", but a matter of "when" I'll look dumb or boring to others when speaking a foreign language I'm not fluent in yet 😂 I've made my peace with it. Now I just smile, listen a lot and let it happen 😂

If you think that languages don’t matter to you, consider how Spanish unlocks most of a continent, how Arabic lets you access at least 25 countries & how Mandarin gives you a share in the most spoken native language on earth. The world is bigger with languages, whatever you love.

Also, I would totally recommend anyone who finds themselves stuck in levels B2/C1 to take an online course in their target language that is directed at native speakers! It's a little intimidating (especially if there's a lot of discussion with peers!) but it helped me a LOT!
