Time to put my munchkins to bed! See you guys soon! #DCMSAODL
A5) I am excited for this school year and implementing some of the strategies. Adding the self monitoring and more real world connections I think will make for more engaged and productive Ss. I’m ready to get started! #DCMSAODL
A4) I was surprised that motivation was not higher and that students own expectations was high. This is where the “I can” statements will come into play. If they know what they are expected to know and can self check their progress then they can achieve more. #DCMSAODL
A3) I think we all share a common goal for student achievement, but sometimes differ on the best way to get there & that is ok. We need to communicate & learn from each other to reach the goal we have set for the Ss. This can lead to higher success rates for the Ss. #DCMSAODL
A2) Excelling at learning environment. Science can be hard. There are so many new terms and ideas they have to wrap their heads around. They have to try new things and it is ok to mess up and try again. That is what science is all about! #DCMSAODL
A1) Ss need to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Jobs in the future are not going to tell you what needs to be done. They will need to see a problem, work together to figure out a solution and solve the problem without being told what to do. #DCMSAODL
Hey friends!! “We can’t change external factors...but we can change internal factors” #DCMSAODL
A5: I am excited to try something new. The idea of giving quality feedback for over 100 kids seems daunting and I worry about the time to get it done well, but the ideas in this chapter are helpful. #DCMSAODL
A4: Honestly I do not think I do a great job currently. I have 2-3 projects that are completed during the year but the quality feedback is difficult. The single point rubrics I think will be super helpful. #DCMSAODL
A3: The single point rubrics would be great talking points for conferencing and self evaluations. They would also be useful in creating different groups during the unit to help differentiate as we go. #DCMSAODL
A2: I want to give the students a single point rubric at the beginning of the unit and as the unit goes give them feedback on the formative assignments they complete. This will help them see how they are doing and make adjustments before a summative assessment is given. #DCMSAODL
A1: If we had more assessments “as” learning students would see the value of learning from mistakes. This is a vital part of being a great scientist. I try to remind them they only a mistake if they do not learn from it. #DCMSAODL
Hello from OBX!! Tons of good nuggets in this chapter!! One of my favs “Balancing assessment practices is essential for ensuring students are better prepared for a world of work, continued learning l, and life as a complex problem-solver.” #DCMSAODL
A5: I don’t think there is one part that is more difficult than others but the driving question is new and will take practice. I do think finding the right pacing to get everything done in a timely manner while insuring all Ss are achieving at the level you want to too.#DCMSAODL
A4: I think we struggle with metacognition. I don’t think it is a lack of effort on our part, but 6th grade Ss are not great at reading for info, summaries, concept mapping and annotating. This is a skill we have to teach with purpose and continue to work on. #DCMSAODL
A3: I see myself in both areas but I think i spend too much in direct and guided areas and need to push more into the independent as application areas. #DCMSAODL
A2: Showing the Ss a clip of a volcano erupting or an earthquake shaking a building really got the interest of the Ss. They start asking questions and want to know why those events only happened in certain areas and want to know if those can happen where we live. #DCMSAODL
A1: We need to focus on the why. If Ss know why they need to understand something they are more likely to try and learn the concept. #DCMSAODL
Greetings from OBX! Fav quote “If we want to achieve deeper learning and higher levels of engagement, though, we need to be methodical in how we design our lessons and rethink the way we use our time.” #DCMSAODL
A5: I keep going back to the water filtration lab. I want to add in the frame of the scenario of the water needs to be filtered for your town or your stranded somewhere to make it more relatable not just a competition. #DCMSAODL
