When engaging in polarizing conversations (politics, race, etc.) the follower of Jesus would do well to ask, "Am I uneasy w/this perspective b/c it runs contrary to Jesus' life & message, or am I uneasy w/this perspective b/c it challenges the long held assumptions I've carried?
