"Whenever I’m feeling like I need to prioritize what I’m doing or overthinking a particular situation that is making me anxious, I try to remember this great exchange in the film Bridge of Spies. Tom Hanks, who plays a lawyer, asks his client, who is being accused of being a spy, 'Aren’t you worried?' His answer: 'Would it help?' I always think, 'Would it help?' That is the pivotal question that I ask myself every day. If you put everything through that prism, it is a remarkably effective way to cut through the clutter." — @andrewrsorkin in Tribe of Mentors
@tferriss Sometimes we can change things but you can bet that I’ll do everything that I could. At least you will live without regrets 😎😎
People usually mistake focusing on resolving the matter with worrying about it… resolving an issue requires a great deal of attention, dedication and commitment that’s not worrying! Sleeping and thinking that it will resolve itself by the time one wakes up is merely a way to escape the situation.
@tferriss True, it just makes you sick to your stomach and unable to sleep or focus.
@tferriss If it doesnt help you sleep better at night, dont think about it
@tferriss "Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere." -Van Wilder (one of the many great quotes from this silly movie that I still repeat often to myself)
@tferriss परेशान रहने से परेशानियों कम नहीं होतीं।
@tferriss And then, using willpower, making the actual effort to banish thoughts or worries that don't help. Mind over matter in life. All the way.
@tferriss Yesss @adeecazayoux and I have said this to each other so many times over the years. It's so helpful. It's like a cue to practice the stoic principle of controlling what's inside our control and letting go of everything else.
@tferriss Regrets about the past don't help. Worries about your future don't help. What helps is for you to be 100% present. Present with where you are. Present with who you are. With what you are doing. Stay present. Or stay lost.
