Do you really have to sit at home or in a facility? Could you not take them out for a drive, for a latte, to a quiet parking spot to watch people? It’s emotionally painful for our brains to have too little sensory or social stimulation. #dementia bit.ly/44pz8y1

When someone with #dementia is gradually losing vocabulary and the ability to organize words into sentences, more time is needed to find words that accurately express what they want to say. Allow pauses. Listen for the *feelings* behind what they say. thedawnmethod.com

#Dementia takes away rational thinking and language skills, not thought. While verbal language abilities fade, nonverbal skills grow (reading facial expressions, intonation, gesture, posture). Learn to work with the skills dementia does not take away. thedawnmethod.com

We need to be careful that we do not forget that retaining a sense of self and well-being is vitally important when our loved ones are experiencing #dementia. We need to accommodate and respect our loved ones’ personalities, their preferences, and their earlier life experiences.
