Just her imagination. Mind playing tricks. A voice almost laughs at her but she hears it catch itself. Her head cants as he asks, and she struggles for a moment — it’s not often someone asks her to smile point blank. But she does. Faintly. “Could just be a campfire.”

“Mm.. yeah. Yeah.” She uses her other hand to rub her face, sitting up a bit more from her slouched position. Deep inhale.. “Hey. Do you smell that? ... Smoke?”

She stirs when he calls for her. It pulls her from a strange dream. She blinks slowly, eyes milky at first as her own voice whispers her awake. They clear once she sees his face, once her hand touches his. “Hey,” she mumbles, “are we here?”

Somewhere in between — she drifts off. Her head falls to her shoulder and she dozes for the first time.. in a while? She doesn’t really remember. Luckily, she doesn’t wake. His driving’s not too bad.

She settles comfortably into the seat and clicks in — immediately going to some chill beats. Nothing too loud. Her head can’t take it; headaches are more frequent lately. Her eyes close as she waits. It’s nice for a moment of peace.
