Pakistan needs to move beyond fire-fighting. The solution lies in stabilizing the economy, leveraging CPEC, US concessions smartly, diversifying trade partners, and crafting a foreign policy rooted in geo-economics not just geo-politics.
In the new developing scenario, India is once again in a strong bargaining position. Despite Trump’s tariff offensives, New Delhi is set to extract favorable deals from both blocs without compromising its long-term interests.
Post-Op Sindoor setback, India has recalibrated its grand strategy. By leveraging BRICS/SCO platforms and post-tariff pragmatism, New Delhi is repositioning itself as a strategic necessity for both East & West, a classic case of realignment diplomacy.
QUAD didn’t save India from Trump’s tariffs. For the U.S., security = Indo-Pacific partnership, but trade = “America First.” India was a friend in QUAD, but still a ‘tariff king’ in Trump’s eyes.
Pakistan’s Core Strategy
1.Multi-vector diplomacy: Don’t put all eggs in one basket.
2.Stay neutral in great power rivalries (like Cold War mistakes must not repeat).
3.Focus on economic security first → trade, energy, investment > military alignments.
4.Brand Pakistan as a…
Pakistan’s foreign policy must move from geopolitics to geo-economics: partner with China for growth, trade with the US for tech, balance Gulf rivals, engage Russia for energy, and stay neutral in big power rivalries. Survival = smart balance, not blind alignment.
For Pakistan:
SCO → Security & political relevance.
BRICS → Future economic opportunity (if admitted).
Together, they offer Pakistan a path to balance regional security with global economic integration.
SCO vs BRICS
SCO = Security club, Eurasia-focused.
BRICS = Economic club, global reform-focused.
Both led by China & Russia, both include India, but different missions.
Since 2011, NDU Pakistan has led not just in defence studies but in media training on deradicalization, social media policy initiated by Gen (R) Umar Farooq in 2011 where I was one of the trainers and carried forward by President's like Gen (R) Muhammad Saeed. A remarkable…
Pakistan’s National Intelligence Fusion Center (NIFC) integrates data streams from military, cyber, and civilian domains enhancing real-time threat analysis, counter-terror ops, and cross-agency coordination. A backbone for modern national security.
The older generation is trapped in a cycle of ‘chaplusi’ and being a yes-man to climb the ladder. Stuck in outdated dogmas, they resist change while the world moves forward.
After increased US scrutiny and waning external backing, BLA seems aligned with TTP, ISKP, and Al-Qaeda. Yesterday’s suicide attack on Akhtar Mengal raises suspicions of a joint BLA/ISKP operation.
Pakistan should arrest and detain families of suicide bombers. If those who think dying changes nothing see consequences for their support networks, even the most extreme ‘fidayeen’ might think twice.
Pakistan’s role in China’s rise:
1950s early recognition
1963 border agreement
1971 opened US-China channel
2000s CPEC backbone
2025 proved Chinese military tech in war
Since 1947, a quiet but pivotal ally.
China’s military parade isn’t just global signaling, it’s reassurance to allies: Beijing’s message is clear, we stand with you militarily, in pain and in gain.
India’s recent moves on tariffs and Russian oil give it a unique reset in diplomacy: potential leverage with the US while navigating China’s regional influence. Now, it’s India’s choice pursue a peaceful neighbourhood or risk confrontations. Cul-de-sac? Yes.
