There were many ages to humankind: stone, bronze, iron, steam, space, nano, chrono and meta, after which we were something else entirely.
Staring out of the window at passersby, it is mutually understood that any eye contact is an intrusion on their part. Such antisocial power.
The witch cursed the boy to a life of storytelling. Each waking hour he would speak of heroism, peril and love, all from a windowless cell.
Placing the iron to yesterday's shirt, I removed clear signs of exhaustion. With fake smile and sunglasses, I then did the same to my face.
Mother would remove the innards, strip the fat, cook the meat, serve the meal and clean up the mess. All I had to do was burn the clothes.
Her breathing was keeping me awake. Partly because it was so heavy, partly because it was on my face, but mostly because I live alone.
Jane decided that she'd rather be loved widely than loved deeply. A soulmate would be great, but she preferred a large Twitter following.
I watched my grandma stand up from her armchair and walk across the living room, only to disappear in front of the urn that holds her ashes.
I awoke just before hitting the ground. Relieved it was only a dream, the panic crept back when I saw the flight attendants looking worried.
"I love you so much," she whispered, "please don't leave me." I held her tight and suppressed a sob, hoping the dream would never end.
"Sorry, you're in the wrong place." He flicked a tiny speck from his immaculate blazer. "This is the UK City of Couture." [For @2017Hull]
