The Fed never owned MBS prior to '09, then put $2.7 trillion (!) of these assets on its balance sheet, and STILL has almost $2.2 trillion of these assets, 16 years (!) after the financial crisis. It's an outrageous and completely distorting intervention into the housing market.

This. The options are -- 1. Managed decline and we enter a new unipolar world with China at the helm 2. While US is still dominant, force a multipolar world and play games to make nations pick sides #2 is the choice. EU and CAN perfectly fine with #1, btw.
