Recovery efforts related to Friday’s fire in University Centre are ongoing over the weekend. The scale of the impact and damage is extensive, but efforts are being made to return the building to operations in most areas as soon as possible. tinyurl.com/wjhoqhn @umanitoba

Fire in UC. Update 3:05 pm. Anyone requiring access to UC to get their coats or keys should come to the Engineering tunnel access to UC. Access will be coordinated by Security.

The City will be burning trees and brush along the river today near Fort Garry campus. There may be some smoke and smell in the air. Please contact the CSD at 204-474-6281 if there are any concerns. @umanitoba

Power has been restored to Elizabeth Dafoe and B Lot trailers as of 9 pm. O&M will verify operation of the fans in the morning. All other buildings systems are functioning, and the building will be operational as per normal. @umanitoba

O&M electricians placed a replacement transformer on the North side of Dafoe and are coring holes to run replacement cables. Barring unforeseen issues, power should return by 10/11 pm. The building will be operational, but may have limited air flow/heat in the morning.@umanitoba

The Elect Shop needs to shut down power to Elizabeth Dafoe and B Lot trailers to resolve an electrical issue. The outage will last at least four hours, but may be longer. More info to follow. @umanitoba

At approximately 10:45 am UM Fort Garry experienced a power bump. O&M is investigating the outage with MB Hydro, but have confirmed that the outage was external to UM. Outages can occur with extreme warm or cold days due to demand. All systems are back in operation. @umanitoba

The pathway between Education and Helen Glass is closed due to a steam leak. The work in this area will be extended through next week while PP works to repair the leak. Please use the detours to gain access to the north and south. @umanitoba

Physical Plant and external consultants are assessing the destruction caused by the storm, and have begun prioritizing needs. Some trees may require only selective pruning of damaged limbs, but many trees require complete removal due to severe structural damage. @umanitoba

Campus cleanup after snow storm has begun and will take approx 3 months—first pri being hazardous trees that pose an immediate risk to public safety. All safety precautions will be taken during this work; pedestrian traffic will be barred from area during tree removal/cleanup.
