Piers Morgan tries to justify war crimes: "How else could we have fought the Nazis?" Prof. Mearsheimer: "Well, if you look at how the Soviets fought, who were basically responsible for defeating the Nazis... there were no bombings of cities, no dropping of nuclear weapons."
The whole conversation regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki is predicated on a lie – Japan was due to surrender to the Russians anyway and Truman knew this, but the US planners didn’t want Russian influence in the Asia-Pacific region. See ‘Racing the Enemy’ by Professor TsuyoshiHasegawa.
@upholdreality Comical. The Soviets raped every German female aged 8-80. Germans fled to the West to surrender to the British & Americans. Civilians were massacred by the Soviets (payback for what the Nazis did to Russian civilians). When you have war, you have war crimes. Always. 🙏🏽
This guy … it’s well documented that America did not have to drop any bombs on japan. The Japanese were done running out of steam and their defeat was inevitable. They did it to send the world a message and it was in fact a war crime. They dropped bombs on civilian centres right when everyone was going to work to cause maximum casualties. It did not win the war. Piers is a fool - there’s no moral justification for war crimes… period. It’s evil and barbarous… and heck if allies had lost - they’d all have been on trial in the states for it.
@upholdreality Piers also acts like the Nazis were an existential threat to the USA, but they never wanted war with either the USA or Britain. The Allies had to resort to all kinds of intentional provocations to get the Axis to do things that would justify war to their publics.
@upholdreality Pier is a pro-genocide. His argument tries to justify what Israel did to the Palestinian people. That's his whole argument.
Their entire dialogue is a lie. Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_St… "Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts, and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey's opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated."
@upholdreality Damn John you had to do it to em.
War is hell. As a civilized society we’d like to think we can conduct war in a “humane” manner under “agreed upon” rules. But at the end of the day, if a war gets bad and escalated enough the goal is simply to have the other side surrender. That’ll only happen when things get bad enough and inevitably that’ll involve civilian casualties. And only the loser will really get tried for “war crimes”. The winner may convict some of its own “bad apples” for PR purposes, but it’ll be minimal and superficial. That’s reality. War is hell.
