Hey @jespow when Kraken upgrades to Bitcoin Core 30, will you be relaying large unconfirmed op return transactions that contain CSAM, or will you move the mempool setting back to 80 bytes? Or will you run Bitcoin Knots instead?

@ercwl Glad to have your support! 🤝 Let's make it happen!
First need to block it at the policy level to slow the harm, then can consider the best fork to prevent data carrying entirely. It should be doable with a softfork, it'd just be a bit painful on the ecosystem (ditching outputs…

@adam3us@SameeLiaei@parman_the I was worried by some of your previous arguments, but I'm relieved to see that fundamentally we're not far apart. With that perspective, would you consider opposing the Bitcoin Core v30 change? Your voice carries significant influence and value.
@SameeLiaei@parman_the there's no legit reason to be sending huge amounts of data. it sends a human message to please not do that. not an enforceable one, as it can be bypassed, but human messages can have effects on humans. most are humans not sociopaths, and have some group interests genes.
My current understanding of the Core/Knots debate below 👇 Let me know what you think.
CURRENT STATE
1. All nodes are blocking the data so <100kb images can’t get stuffed into the chain in easy readable form.
2. Slipstream and MARA wont accept to put illicit images on-chain…
@brian_trollz Perhaps in the future, it would be better to make OP_RETURN limits a consensus rule rather than just a policy. Large OP_RETURN outputs are mostly used for spam, so I don't think anyone other than spammers would object.

PROTIP for all Bitcoin Treasury fans:
Imagine trying to sell the idea of Bitcoin Treasures where those treasuries are all stored on a heap of the most evil pornography indelibly inscripted into bitcoin.
No company board will approve of “storing their money on a pile of vile…
There is a big difference between accepting data that has always been a part of a system, and unilaterally changing that system to deliberately allow a specific data type that was not previously possible.
What some people are advocating and with malice of forethought and…
Exactly.
This is complicated enough that I'm going to have to keep restating it in different ways until people get it.
Old methods of storing evil stuff required obfuscation: they would need to break it up into multiple chunks and reassembly would require specific software and…

Stop leveraging Bitcoin's justification for treating a specific, abstract activity (money - which has all these unique characteristics, primarily fungibility where we do not judge the money itself, only the activity it represents) as neutral....
...with DATA SOTRAGE IN GENERAL.…
This is the perspective that has gotten missed:
There is no context in which you would let random, anonymous strangers upload 100kb files to your computer on a self-regulating p2p network.
The constant appeals to censorship resistance are a complete red herring. Mempool filters…
"Why would anyone want to store child pr0n in the blockchain"?
Because getting other people to store it for you is vastly preferable to storing or hosting it yourself. Particularly if the storage medium is widely distributed among people otherwise engaged in a morally defensible…
Core will pretend they didn’t see this video.
With Core’s changes, Bitcoin risks being exploited to store illegal material (like CP).
That gives governments the perfect excuse to outlaw Bitcoin or make running a node illegal.

I am prepared to justify relaying and storing any and all transactions - even ones representing reprehensible activity.
Because fundamentally money requires that in order to work at all.
It's uncomfortable but it's the truth.
I am not prepared to justify relaying and…
The line between "spam vs normal use" (or "bug vs feature") has to be subjective.
In the case of Bitcoin, the rough consensus has been that something like today’s 80 byte OP_RETURN limit (a hash + some metadata) is acceptable.
But once we start allowing arbitrarily large payloads…
