This morning I remembered my late cousin teaching me how to do “The Whip.” Grief is a time-traveling machine. youtu.be/Gd3gl5gnMeA
New pub alert! I’m so proud of this one and SO grateful for the women who shared their stories with me 🖤
Black DH folx- please share far and wide. This is much needed!!! "Mapping the Black Digital and Public Humanities, an interactive, searchable map of digital and public humanities projects related to Black history & culture." public.tableau.com/app/profile/ce…
I’ll be 45 when my first book, THE DEATH OF A JAYBIRD, comes out in November, and 44 when I start at NYU in the fall for an MFA in creative nonfiction! I’ve got one life to live and I’m gon ride this bus to the wheels come off!

What is a book, article, zine, etc., by a Black feminist that changed your life? 📖📚📓 Please share with us in the comments below! 👇🏾 #blackwomenradicals
5 books that will help you build healthy academic writing habits (so you can write a lot and publish a lot):
“When someone falls in love with your flowers and not your roots, they don’t know what to do once fall and winter come.” @jadethejournalist Thank you for this insight- #nomakeup #nofilters #50
Also noticing whose mouths remain sewn tightly closed by the threads of fickle privilege and deep cowardice. Well paid mediocrity is a hell of a drug.
@amyjccuddy The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Changed how I thought about personal safety and how the socializing women to always be polite actually puts us in danger. I just gave it to a friend last year - still relevant (maybe even more so)
People: "Why aren't there more Black librarians????" Me: "Because Black people were legally refused library service until 1964" People: "That was 58 years ago!!!!" Me: "That's correct, 58" People: "That can't be why? Why aren't there more Black librarians"
Trauma happens when we experience something that overwhelms our capacity to cope. And, trauma isn’t just about what we experience— it’s what we don’t experience (connection, love, belonging, acceptance.)
Yesterday, a man asked me on behalf of his daughter how do I respond to people who wld label me an angry Black woman. I said I'd say: You're right. Anger is a perfectly normal emotion right now. We have to stop being so concerned abt civility in response to uncivil circumstances.

When people ask how I came upon my career path I should be real and just show them this
Today is the first day! We hope you will follow along for updates as we share the wonderful work our students do!
This week @drashleyfarmer and I are running a freedom school on activism and archives for UT students. It’s been a year-long development, and although we gone be tired AF this week, we’re excited!! Here’s the cover of the workbook students will receive.

I hear these library conference horror stories... and I secretly WISH someone would come at me sideways at a conference...
@HiringLib I lost 3 family members in 3 years, one to covid, and I needed to take some time off. It was hard working at my best while losing almost my entire family. after a year off, I need to move on and start working again. It's not easy getting back in with a 1 year resume gap
This week's question is for a different group of folks. People currently searching for library or #LISjobs: why are you looking for work?
I had my hair braided today and blown out, It’s at my mid-lower back. I was amazed. How is it so long? Shrinkage is real.
Back at work, and made it all the way through* my email! Praise me! *Minus one email thread I don't have the spoons to deal with today, but everything else was dealt with!
Did everyone in library school have that hypothetical budget assignment where funding was cut and you had to decide what services or positions to cut in order to not bankrupt the entire system?
