🚢@maritimefusion is building fusion reactors for ships, bridging the gap between breakeven fusion and a commercially viable product. ycombinator.com/launches/Mrt-m…
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Shouldnt we start by building ONE working fusion reactor?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Y Combinator is so cooked lmao
@ycombinator @maritimefusion We hiring Christopher Nolan to do startup trailers now?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion investors funding this
@ycombinator @maritimefusion So is this break even fusion or is it not? Huge if true. But if not how would putting a net negative fusion on ship make any sense 🤷♂️
Fusion is super exciting long term goal and I am a huge fan of nuclear energy/nuclear powered ships. But having spent quite a bit of time in both of these sectors, I wish someone would go for an intermediate/immediate step of replacing PWRs with SMRs (small modular reactors). There’s huge overlooked opportunity here
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Hot take but Y combinator is the same as Pump.fun just slower
@ycombinator @maritimefusion damn this is sick, can't wait to see what you guys build!
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Cool video. How many components and sub-assemblies are in the BOM?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion I thought YC just did software?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion How about solving nuclear fusion breakeven first? 😉
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Why haven’t they tweeted but their account is linked?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion why not build a cheap and available fission product first ?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion It would at least be believable if it were "We are making self contained fission based nuclear reactors designed for commercial cargo carriers with a TCO cheaper than fossil fuels".
@ycombinator @maritimefusion What does a fusion reactor do in this context that a fission one can’t?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion For a mere $10,000,000.00 can build you a non functional fusion reactor out of my empty box of Saltine crackers.
Smells just like another modern money laundering scheme disguised as progress. Startups today often thrive not by solving real problems but by bridging imaginary gaps with flashy jargon like "breakeven fusion" and "commercial viability." Fusion for ships sounds groundbreaking until you realize it’s less about revolutionizing maritime tech and more about funneling capital into projects that may never see the light of day.
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Y combinator breakthrough investing strategy: step 1: fund AI video gen companies step 2: fund companies that can only ship videos step 3: profit
@ycombinator @maritimefusion All the funding went to this advertisement video. Maybe as a civilization we should get ONE working fusion reactor that produces more energy than we put in first?
@ycombinator @maritimefusion How does @maritimefusion plan to miniaturize it's reactor to fit on a vehicle? Where will they get the MWs of input power on an off-the-grid vehicle required to start their reactor?
Don't we already have this? Fission Nuclear ships and submarines already provide practically unlimited energy. Carriers and Submarines have to restock only for food, aviation fuel, and changing crew. I get that this is 'clean', but as a Net-Gain optimist, I feel we should look at I dunno setting up multiple mini reactors next to population-dense centres to reduce transmission loss.
@ycombinator @maritimefusion get this shit to work on land first
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Everyone in the comment section needs to chill and just let them cook
@ycombinator @maritimefusion They’re going to buuuuuurrrrn through VC money and not deliver a single unit
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Entire governments working together and spending the gdp of a small country to get this to work on land and we expect this to some how magically work on a boat
Out of curiosity: why fusion over fission? Because USN aircraft carriers are already powered by fission nuclear reactors. Democratizing this tech for other shipping companies would make a lot of business sense. But what purpose does fusion solve over fission? Fusion is required high energy density, which I don’t think the ships need. Unless it is safety, even that is manageable.
@ycombinator @maritimefusion this is very exciting, good luck to the team
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Obviously this startup’s imagination is very limited. @ai_republic here to announce, we are building fusion reactor for spaceship! @ycombinator invest us instead, we have better story 🤣
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Why not make fusion first? Then you can try it on a boat! And we don't have to waste all these animators time!
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Haha I don't even understand the problem statement 😅
@ycombinator @maritimefusion Why are any of us working "real jobs" when we could just be making shit up and getting paid billion$ of VC Monopoly money to do AI-generated sci fi video clip larps
