Not familiar with the ajax/XML heyday of the past, can anyone explain why XML contributed so much bloat?
@zack_overflow and you can tag him on this platform, just like that @btaylor 🤯
@zack_overflow Them XML turned him from a 10000x engineer into a 1000x engineer
@zack_overflow hardcore did a bit of work on “ajax” tiled maps Must’ve been rugged tools wise back then too
@zack_overflow meanwhile someone on linkedin stole your tweet linkedin.com/posts/olivermo…
@zack_overflow this is either a bullshit story or the original app was like 10k lines of code.
@zack_overflow I have to be the next 100x engineer
@zack_overflow Since this story about me and Maps seems to make the rounds every few months, here’s another good one:

@zack_overflow early google seems so cool
@zack_overflow This is not 100-1000x engineer work. This is the work you give the intern to do. Switching from XML to a different data struct is exactly the kind of thing that takes a middling SWE a weekend to do. A 10x engineer could knock it out in an afternoon and still leave work early.
@zack_overflow x.com/ltrd_/status/1… The same story happened twice in Google

@zack_overflow Hopefully he’s a millionaire with millions in RSUs
@zack_overflow Pretty sure it took at least two weekends. Let's not undersell it.
@zack_overflow Damn PMs used to actually build and write code not post on tiktok
@zack_overflow This story reminds me of the Silicon Valley tv show "middle out" moment.
