Viral disease causes severe yield losses of cereal crops. Here, we cloned the first virus resistance gene encoding a typical CNL protein from the model monocot plant, Brachypodium distachyon, and demonstrated its potential for improving agricultural crops.

MAPK cascades play an important role in innate immunity. Here, we show that that beet black scorch virus activates MAPK signaling in Nicotiana benthamiana and the viral coat protein counteracts MAPK-mediated defence by competitively binding to a MAPKKKα interactor.

NbSAMDC3 interacts with and promotes the non-lysine ubiquitylation and 26S proteasome-mediated degradation of the BSMV γb protein to safeguard against viral infection,which expands our knowledge about how a plant host deploys the UPS to mount defences against viral infections.

We reported a barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV)-based sgRNA delivery vector system (BSMV-sg), which could efficiently induce heritable single and multiplex genome editing in hexaploid wheat plants while bypassing laborious tissue culture.

We provide evidence that icosahedral viral coat protein plays an important role in determining host-specific systemic infections of Nicotiana benthamiana and soybean, which is related to the binding affinity of the CP to the host factor Hsc70-2. (Highlighted as an Editor's Pick).
