Glad to hear this benchmark will be reinstated and at the correct elevation. Well done to @SignsTheReading for highlighting that it had been removed as part of the new works; it's likely this part of Cork's built heritage landscape would have been lost forever otherwise.

This is an awful shame! Was a rare example of a benchmark on a kerb, as noted by @SignsTheReading. Hopefully the old kerb stones (and benchmark) will be reincorporated into the completed works 🤞 @The_VQ_Cork @GardenCityShane

We have one with a copper bolt too, down by the Killaloe canal at site of lock & lock house. Always thought it was chewing gum stuck in the centre! Thanks for the explanation.

Example of a well preserved pivot #benchmark in St Mary's New Ross, #Wexford. Somewhat unusually the benchmark is on the ground hidden by the door. Very inconspicuous! I wonder was this done due to an objection to the regular cut benchmark being visible on the outside wall?

Bizarre request! I'm involved in a project to bury a time capsule for a community group. While we know what we want to deposit in the capsule, we have no idea about the practical side - container, depth, rust-free capsule etc. Can anyone help? All retweets are appreciated.
