Living as an undiagnosed Autistic person is like walking around with a sign saying 'Kick Me' taped to your back. Finding out you're Autistic means you learn the sign is there and why everyone keeps laughing at you and kicking you.

PSA 📢 Emotional dysregulation (meltdowns, shutdowns, irritability, outbursts, depression, anxiety...) is NOT a behavior issue. And if you treat it like one, instead of solving the problem (whatever is causing the behavior), you'll end up making it worse. Usually a LOT worse.

If one takes an honest view, there is little, if any, hope to be found in the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19. The virus is out of control, safety measures have been abandoned, and denial prevails. We must now toughen ourselves for the extreme horror that is undoubtedly ahead of us.
It shouldn't be this difficult to get people on the left to care about disabled people.
Celebrating a whole school year where kiddo did not get Covid even once. School is so well ventilated, you feel a chill from the airflow from all the filters. As a result, we didn't get sick, we didn't miss a day of work, we didn't get Long Covid, we kept older family members…
I'm grateful for sex work - it gives me time to write, spend time with my friends, and date - but I still get panic attacks before I have to see clients. I hate pretending to be happy when I'm not.
One of the best things so far doing research for my PhD, is I am also hearing stories of other provincial Windrush communities too (not just Northants). i.e Rugby, Doncaster, Bedford, Basingstoke... Caribbean England in the 50s + 60s has many histories outside of cities ❤️❤️

With the neoliberal privatisation of stress and ever increasing divisions of labour under capitalism, emotional processing increasingly gets outsourced to new therapy industries. This creates a responsibility to become "therapised", which itself becomes a new social norm. 1/4
A guy next to me on my first flight wasn't wearing a mask so I offered one of my N95s; he was like, "No, don't use." So I Google-translated "I'm getting surgery, COVID is dangerous for me." He went, "Oh" and put on his own mask. People forget they put others at risk.
Autistic people are often misread as flirting when we are only being friendly. This can happen if: our minimal eye contact is misread as coyness; our mask is so enthusiastic we seem “too friendly”; and our stims match flirtations (eg hair twirling and lip reading/biting/licking).
Living as an undiagnosed Autistic person is like walking around with a sign saying 'Kick Me' taped to your back. Finding out you're Autistic means you learn the sign is there and why everyone keeps laughing at you and kicking you.
Autism is a disability. That's it. That's the tweet.
Being autistic is exhausting... That is all. (I'm too exhausted to elaborate, but if you're autistic and have the energy, I think this could make for a fantastic thread to close out #AutismAwarenessMonth.)
The pro-virus and mass death response from the right was always expected. Business-as-usual is their thing. But the way most on the left have slotted in behind pro-covid policies that disproportionately kill workers and the vulnerable has been illuminating and shameful
The sad part about not knowing I was autistic is that I thought my confusion when someone was talking or explaining something was a me problem. It never occurred to me that change in environment or asking a person to clarify was an option. So what I did was this…

People who still wear masks when they go out are SUPER cute, just sayin’. 😌
I’m sick of explaining to strangers that I’m immunocompromised. It’s dehumanizing. From now on, when people ask why I’m still masking, I’m gonna say because community care is important to me and I refuse to participate in harming the most marginalized communities.
