So sad to hear of referee Uriah Rennie's death at just 65. I was there when he refereed his first Football League game - Darlington v Preston in August 1994. PNE arrived 20-odd mins late. I can still see him standing in the tunnel in his new ref's outfit checking his watch. RIP.

So sad to hear snooker commentator Clive Everton has passed away. Over my years as a young hack covering the UK Championships in Preston Clive was incredibly kind and supportive. Simply the best. RIP.

What's happened to Preston city centre? It's like the Village of the Damned these days with beggars, winos and smackheads making a walk down Fishergate an uncomfortable obstacle course. Little wonder more and more folk are avoiding the place altogether.

We're encouraged to use public transport to save the planet and that's great if the buses and trains turn up. I've been left standing at the bus stop FOUR times in the past two weeks trying to travel between Longton and Preston. Back to the car I think.

Good luck to Spanish side Almeria tonight against Athletic Bilbao as they try to avoid an unwanted record - La Liga's longest winless run of 24 games. Stayed in the same hotel near Marbella and watched them train. Really not as bad as their season suggests.

At the Spurs v Villa game today and it’s an emotional day here following the sad news of Terry Venables’ passing. Just spoken to Clive Allen and he paid a lovely tribute. “A great coach and a real character.” RIP.

So sad to hear my old classmate Alistair Little has passed away. Celebrity chef, restaurant owner, author and all round good guy. James Martin says he was the Godfather of cooking. To us he was just just a great lad who held blinding parties when his parents were away. RIP Ali.

First Rod Marsh and now Shane Warne. A terribly sad time for Aussie and world cricket. I was in the press box at Old Trafford when Warne bowled that crazy delivery which turned almost sideways and did Mike Gatting. The look on Gatting's face was one of sheer astonishment. RIP.
