Council continues to lack quorum. Seven City staff are waiting in the meeting room in case Council makes quorum. I estimate this 30-minute wait will cost $400 in staff time. The estimate does not include the time to organize the meeting. #yhmcc #QuorumWatch
@JoeyColeman How can they not know who is coming or not? Is there no mechanism whereby they send “regrets”? Is there no respect from members to warn others of their tardiness or inability to attend? Seems so hit and miss.
@AllanLutyk @JoeyColeman This is a long-standing problem that predates this council. Clearly there are process issues around meeting organization that need resolving.
@menrvasofia @JoeyColeman If you're not going to be at a meeting, your office sends regrets to the clerk. Your absence is marked in the minutes as either personal or city business. If there are not enough members to reach quarum for the scheduled meeting, the chair/clerk reschedules. That's the process.
@JohnPaulDanko @menrvasofia @JoeyColeman That’s how your office does it, and I’m sure some others, but there’s no official process and no policy in writing. A cultural or workplace norm is not a process or a policy. I sense that this Council is on board to do that work, which is great, but we’re not there yet.
@CameronKroetsch @JohnPaulDanko @menrvasofia @JoeyColeman There needs to be a formal policy and protocol put in place if a Councillor is going to be absent. There would be consequences at my job for failing fellow colleagues and those counting on me by simply not showing up without reason provided prior to a meeting etc...
@CameronKroetsch @JohnPaulDanko @menrvasofia @JoeyColeman However, obviously that is not what happened here, since some people showed - others didn't, you'd think if it was JPD's way,- EVERYONE would have known ahead of time! This is a DYSFUNCTIONAL city hall. Money & time being wasted constantly! Citizens taking time off for nothing 🤷
