Confirmed. The Tories are now going to either elect their third female leader and Prime Minister or Britain’s first black Prime Minister. Labour, meanwhile, cling desperately to their white men from north London.

#conservativeleadership candidates: 50% women, 50% ethnic minority in first round. First vote leaves 57% women, 43% ethnic minority. @Conservatives demonstrate strong beliefs in equality and opportunity. In fact, only one white man will go through to the next stage.

There are now more people from minority backgrounds running to lead Britain's Conservative Party than have ever run to lead Labour, sat in Labour Cabinet, been Labour minister in the Lords, or a Labour MEP. Diversity is not everything but this is awkward for the identitarian left
