colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer screening is
recommended for men and women aged 50 and older.
Talk to your doctor about which test is right for you:

Screening saves lives!
Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in both men and women, and even though it is one of the more deadly of the leading cancers, it is also the most preventable. #ScreenForCancerSC#CRCfreeSCsccancer.org/initiatives/co…
Being overweight or obese raises the risk of developing and dying from #colorectalcancer. The link between being overweight and colorectal cancer is stronger in men. It is important to get regular physical activity to reduce your risk. buff.ly/3ceeEgx
Your risk for CRC is increased if you have a personal history of inflammatory bowel disease, including either ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. buff.ly/3ceeEgx
The risk of getting colorectal cancer increases with age. About 90% of cases occur in adults aged 50 or older. However, the incidence rate of CRC is rising among people younger than age 50. buff.ly/2FqdCAs
Diet has an impact on the risk of colorectal cancer. A diet high in processed and red meats increases your risk. To lower your risk, follow a healthy diet that includes whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and limit red/processed meats and sugary drinks. buff.ly/3ceeEgx
People who smoke tobacco regularly are more likely to develop and die from #CRC. The American Cancer Society suggests that it is best not to drink alcohol, but if you do, limit intake to 2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink a day for women. #TipTuesdaybuff.ly/3ceeEgx
The National Cancer Institute has a Colorectal Cancer Risk Assessment Tool that may help you calculate your risk of #CRC if you are between the ages 45 and 85. It takes about 5 minutes to complete. buff.ly/2TUtT9N#ScreenForCancerSC#CRCfreeSC @CancerFreeSC
Many risk factors for colorectal cancer can be controlled or changed. According to the American Cancer Society, the links between colorectal cancer and diet, weight, and exercise are some of the strongest for any type of cancer. buff.ly/3ceeEgx
One of the risk factors is a personal or family history of polyps or colorectal cancer. Genetics does have a link to the development of colorectal cancer. Some inherited gene mutations can put you at a higher risk for colorectal cancer. Learn more here: buff.ly/2HS7B3k
Most colorectal cancers occur in people without a family history. Still, 1 in 3 people who develop colorectal cancer have other family members who have had it. It is important to know your family history and discuss your risk factors with your doctor. buff.ly/3ceeEgx
According to the American Cancer Society, the overall death rate of colorectal cancer has continued to decline, but deaths among people younger than age 55 have increased 1% per year from 2008 to 2017. #ScreenForCancerSC#CRCfreeSCbuff.ly/2Mnv2zg
African Americans have the highest colorectal cancer incidence and mortality rates of all racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Screening can help reduce disparities. buff.ly/2YY64g7
The 5-year relative survival rate for colorectal cancer is 64.6%. Getting screened can find polyps or cancer in the colon or rectum before it is too late. Make an appointment with your doctor to get screened today. Screening saves lives. #CRCfreeSCbuff.ly/2YY64g7
Some symptoms of colorectal cancer include blood in the stool, stomach pain, and unintentional weight loss. Colorectal cancer does not always cause symptoms, especially early on. It is important to get screened before it is too late. #ScreenForCancerSCbuff.ly/340wEKf
Colorectal cancer incidence has been on the decline, but rates of CRC are increasing in adults aged 20-49 years. Incidence rates have annually increased by 1.4% for colon cancer and 2.4% for rectal cancer among those 55 and younger. buff.ly/2YY64g7buff.ly/2Mnv2zg
According to the American Cancer Society, the overall lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is about 1 in 23 for men and 1 in 25 for women. Colorectal cancer affects both men and women. Find out more about risk factors for #colorectalcancer here: buff.ly/3ceeEgx
Most colorectal cancers develop from polyps, which are noncancerous growths that can become cancerous over time, so it is important to get screened regularly in order to detect and remove them. Polyps often have no symptoms, making them a “silent killer”. buff.ly/2NABofI
