This argument made sense in 2005, but it is basically just false now. 6/51 American states have per capita of over $100k. Germany/UK/France are a little over $50k. Considering divergent growth, give it 10 years, and Western Europe will be to the US what Poland is to Germany.

My favorite example of the UK aping the US was when a Green MP for Bristol claimed trans people weren't why eggs were unaffordable. The problem? Egg prices in the UK didn't change. Rising prices happened in the U.S. due to bird flu. Mentally UK politicians live in America.
