Demolition Take Down is a research & engagement initiative aimed at revolutionising Ireland's demolition practices. Funded by the Creative Climate Action Fund.demolitiontakedown.ie Dublin City, IrelandJoined September 2023
Like this survey response, conversations come back to the challenge of introducing circular principles into the Irish economy. We consider this a last resort, even so this is considered by some to require a radial rethink of waste generation in the Irish construction industry.
We will be sharing some results from our recent industry-wide survey over the next few weeks. This figure of 18% indicates that a shift in practice is required.

We were thrilled to show 2 films at @Archi_TUDublin these films presented the complexity of demolition from the perspective of human value systems to the financial realities that we operate within. #MakingDust#TheDemolitionDrama
Another insightful collaboration between architecture and property economics students this week for the #Whatawaste elective. Thanks to Paul from @stwarchitects who presented their renovation & extension to Miesian Plaza.
This semester @Archi_TUDublin students are taking part in the elective ‘Demolition Takedown’ module, alongside Property Economics students and lecturers.
Join us & @Build_ingChange for a double film screening in the gallery space @SABE_TUDublin. We are delighted to present 2 outstanding films on the topic of demolition on March 13th from 5pm.
Our What a Waste elective workshop paired 4th architecture students with property economics students. We are considering the impact of demolition on waste & value; culturally, financially & environmentally.
It's easy to draw a hatch to denote demolition, it takes a few seconds! The hatch translates into reality via clearing, grubbing, stripping or removing existing built fabric. Our focus is on the decision making before demolition is hatched on a drawing. We want to hear from you.
We will listen to different perspectives through an open dialogue on the topic of demolition throughout the construction industry. We want to understand why existing buildings are often demolished instead of being adapted for reuse. Please reach out & talk to us!
Who knows the extent of wasted resources from the demolition of existing buildings in Ireland? Who cares enough to reuse existing buildings and materials?
