runtime.memstats has grown much in go1.16, from 920 bytes in go1.15 to 7344 bytes now. We got more heap statistics but it makes difficult to keep the support for MCUs with only 128 KB of RAM like STM32L476RG. The other parts of runtime didn't grown or or even decreased .

We now support 64bit ARM FPUs (STM32H7, some STM32F7). Set GOARM=7d to enable generating floating-point instructions. The compiler internals make difficult to support 32bit-only FPUs (STM32F4/L4) but you can now use assembly to access 32bit FP instructions github.com/embeddedgo/stm…

The program from the previous tweet uses an RTC driver and the Sunrise Equation github.com/embeddedgo/stm… to automatically turn on the electric lanterns in the garden for 1/3 of the night. Using a backup battery for the RTC requires removing R5 from the board.

Go program on STM32F405: github.com/embeddedgo/stm… Uses simple ANSI terminal driver for line editing. It's mounted (see embedded/rtos.Mount), opened and replaces os.Stdin/out. The board github.com/embeddedgo/stm… is USB-connected to Linux SBC, can be controlled/programmed remotely.

Embedded Go programmer is bitten by Go memory usage. The main problem is pclntab that grows with your code (about 1/3 of text segment). But there is less known fact about defer statement. The first defer in function eats about 100 bytes, next one 30-40. play.golang.org/p/djGECxx2j5j

Until now only ticking system timer based on the SYSTICK downcounter was available for STM32. Finally we have an RTC type 2 based tickless system timer. Now it's used as default system timer for boards with RTC crystal. How to set time if we have RTC? github.com/embeddedgo/stm…

A long time ago ST has broke down quite nice RTC used in STM32F1 series (simple counter) by introducing the RTC type 2 (BCD calendar+time) present in almost all newer MCUs. They recently has fixed this mistake in the RTC type 3 used in STM32WL series. st.com/resource/en/ap…

The noos/riscv64 port now supports nested interrupts. Nested interrupts allow the higher priority interrupt to preempt the lower priority one. Typical #RISCV CPU (with CINT+PLIC) has no hardware support for nested interrupts. It's all done in software. github.com/embeddedgo/ken…

If someone had problem to watch videos in 'Playing with Go schedulers on a dual-core RISC-V' article it was due to yuv444p format. All converted to yuv420p now.
