“Still no outcome on how staff will be protected in the office. It’s as we all expected, words and no actions. Nothing has been learnt by anyone above SPO level.”
When I worked in probation I was known as the one who would say something. They loved that for a while until they realised I wasn’t to be contained by their toxic, bullying tactics. If you think for yourself and stand up to the SLT your days are numbered
Asylum hotel protesters merrily dance and sing along to massive British cultural icon, Freddie Mercury. It completely passes them by that he was an immigrant refugee who came here to escape political unrest and violence in Zanzibar. Couldn't make it up, really.
@JoePS123 Speaking as somebody who works in the justice system, no she has not. Every measurable aspect of the criminal courts has got worse on her watch. She had a dreadful inheritance, sure. But the idea that she has been effective is a myth among political journalists.
It all seems to have gone very quiet now the ballot is over and done with. Yet again staff too exhausted to fight against the service. They are so broken and done, but just want some form of stability so they don’t add more stress
Probation staff protects the community.
From sex offenders. From violent people. From chaos.
But staff doing that work are burnt out, underpaid & walking away.
📢 The public should be furious that government refuses to put things right

Since the reunification of the Probation Service, there have been ongoing staff shortages and difficulties with recruitment and retention. Embedding learning into practice is essential in creating a service with strong foundations: buff.ly/MWWDNZE
Privatised. Pulverised. Patronised.
Politicians torched probation & now won’t fund its recovery.
Ministers failed. Now MPs must step up.
📢 Ask yours why probation staff are threatening to walk out.

"I came across this comment on one of the recent Napo articles by a fellow probation officer, and it sums it up where we are perfectly. “…it will likely be overlooked by probation services, HMPPS, and much of the academic establishment.” 7/7
"...and to stop being forced into pointless, performance-driven, civil service tick-box practices that don’t work. There’s been a lot on here recently about staff-led initiatives and recommendations, but the reality is stark no matter what we think, feel or say." 6/7
"All we ever ask for is simple: fairer pay, better access to support services for the ‘PiPs’ and ‘PoPs’, legislation to make it happen, give probation some credibility instead of running it into the ground as an overflow tank for the prison service..." 5/7
"...it’s so out of touch they might as well rip up the half-baked, back-of-a-fag-packet blueprints, wait for ChatGPT-5, and just do what the computer says. Forget waiting for “probation leaders” to say anything above the parapet." 4/7
"They have no insight into the causes of offending and imprisonment. Just as with the all these probation officer recruitment campaigns peppered with young white middle-class female graduates claiming to ‘make a difference’ or represent diverse communities..." 3/7
"My head in hands in despair I’ve just watched the news about deporting foreign national prisoners, electronic tags, and ‘tougher’ unpaid work, all to achieve the only thing they seem to care about: reducing prison overcrowding." 2/7
"Tone deaf doesn’t even begin to cover it. The MoJ and HMPPS simply don’t listen to their staff. The people designing policies and making the big decisions are so far removed from the frontline it’s almost laughable." 1/7
Sky news reporting that all FNO’s will be deported upon sentencing. The lies continue. There are laws and processes that need to be followed otherwise human rights breached and even bigger issues for the Govt.
