You know what has driven my investing decisions for decades? A company’s ability to grow its revenue and free cash flow ~annually for as far forward as one cares to estimate. This can work even when it doesn’t always (Amazon has only had FCF in fits and starts).
In 1983, Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) were introduced to the world by Andy Grove—former CEO of Intel. But, it was only in 1999 when John Doerr—who worked for Andy Grove—introduced the framework to Larry Page and Sergey Brin (Founders of Google) that it really took off.

Create a 3-5 year roadmap for your investing. What do you believe is going to happen in business, society and the world? Which handful of companies are best positioned to prosper as a result? Write it all down. Invest accordingly.
When assessing the economy, remember to differentiate between leading indicators and lagging indicators. We’ve seen weakness in leading indicators; lagging indicators will follow. Travel happening now looks strong, for instance, but it was booked months ago.

Don’t judge people by what they own. Many people aren’t motivated by money.
Financial freedom is a possibility for any person who can save even very modest sums regularly and invest it in the stock market for decades. Such patience may sound old fashioned, but it often won’t take that long, and it will work.
State Lotteries have many problems — like targeting the poor — but another issue they propagate is massive financial inequality. One person in Maryland won $731 million. Instead, 731 players could have each won $1 million, changing 731 families (if as many would play for $1M).
In 2016, I moved 401(k) funds from a 2030 retirement fund to a S&P 500 index fund. Just checked the results. The 2030 retirement fund: +41%. The S&P 500 index: +105%. If you're at least 5 years from "retirement" age, retirement target date funds are not what I'd choose, if ever.
Companies can become giant. You are a single individual. Your ownership stake in a growing company will round to zero, but it still becomes a giant fortune to you as the company grows. This is the power of one. You can start small and grow relatively enormous in just years.
