Every tragicomedy needs a fall guy and it was Humza Yousaf's misfortune to be ideally cast in that role. thetimes.co.uk/article/snp-sc…
School walkouts should be an unacceptable form of protest, not something that you get rewarded for. We reward kids for breaking rules in high school and then they become adults and are shocked when they get arrested because they don't believe in consequences

I’ll be all for the Proms including pop music when the major pop music festivals include Machaut’s Messe de Notre Dame, Gesualdo’s Tenebrae or some Beethoven late quartets. And maybe we could hear such music on Radio 1 from time to time?
If the SNP continue on their current trajectory, by 2026 they'll need to be fighting for those top-up regional Holyrood seats - and that means fighting the Greens | my latest for @unherd unherd.com/newsroom/humza…

I was 💯 sure the general election would be in May (luckily, no one can shout at or fire me for my duff advice these days). But I do think Henry's onto something here.

A possibly unwelcome endorsement, but I'd suggest @HCH_Hill is the most astute Conservative commentator around. Certainly the most grounded in reality, willing to point out that our pint-sized emperor is starkers. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I don't understand why people play dumb when they don't like tradition, or claim it's "not normal". Rituals, symbols, orders, and traditions are some of the few truly universal human features, and there are whole libraries written on the role they play in maintaining a society.

Pro-tip: When asked which Tory leaders you like other than Thatcher and Churchill your response should not be an incredibly long uncomfortable silence at the end of which you announce that you like Javier Milei.

It turns out the Development Bank of Wales (owned by the Labour Welsh Government) is losing millions of pounds. Given the bank is funded by taxpayers’ money, it’s vital that the First Minister now provides a full explanation for the scale of the losses.
Extraordinary admission from the soon to be former First Minister of Scotland @HumzaYousaf who admits that he thought he could abandon his climate change targets, sack two ministers and end the Coalition with @scottishgreens and still rely on their support
Very sad to learn of CJ Sansom's death. One of the finest contemporary writers of historic fiction. Always impeccably researched, his novels would make you obsess about the time-period, and you'd then marvel at the effort he'd put into recreating Tudor England, pockmarks and all
i think this is empirically false mockery is extremely effective at convincing undecideds in particular by perhaps credibly demonstrating that 1. affiliation with a position will lead to status attacks 2. ppl affiliated with that position are not dominant enough to retaliate
the problem here is that mockery is a terrible way to convince people to change their minds it’s also ineffective at persuading the undecided. what it’s good for is building cred with your tribe we all instinctively know this from our own experience. but it bears repeating

Britain’s number one economic problem is the planning system but building regulations are also hugely destructive to the wellbeing of the nation and also need a radical overhaul
All of these houses are illegal to build today under the latest building regulations.
Do we even make film or serial TV like this anymore? I don't even pay attention to film much anymore. Seems like a dead genre filled with rehashes and superheroes and utterly devoid of anything the Greeks or Shakespeare would have recognized.
interestingly at least one team failed to replicate this with a much larger study and didn't get a result despite a funny title x.com/ThatNeilMartin…
I have often wondered whether these were two separate studies. I mean, they would have to be. They are published in two different journals. @sTeamTraen

I think about these two pictures from @joulee a lot – very succinct and powerful way of describing how professional creatives have a more structured process, and how that isn't necessarily limiting – you actually get to try more things this way
The responses to this are just unhinged. What is most noticeable is that "neurodivergent" seems to have become the accepted term to describe the hypothetical children who can't follow a rule an activist doesn't like. x.com/mrdavidscales/…
Also great to see that the site continues to develop. These posters were designed by our excellent librarian, Mr Harris, and are in every classroom - and now on the corridors to reinforce our message and ethos.
