I talk a lot about men's power fantasies but women have them too, for different reasons, & this is one. When women hear a victim's story & interject that they wouldn't have tolerated that, would have fought back, would have left - this too is a power fantasy. And it's harmful.

"Couldnt be me" is the primary manifesto of shame/honour/perception culture. So it's very tiring dealing with women who believe my feminism is a savior complex, a form of pity or naive when I'm just internalising my political ethos: what is done to women doesnt define them.

There are a lot of women smug that they escaped the pitfalls of patriarchy because they opted out (or had no access) to men and they feel gleeful when women are punished for "lacking discernment". Its trad as hell to turn abused and maligned women into cautionary tales.

My issue with "feminists" escaping conservative backgrounds is that if your solution to all gendered injustice is "choose better", you're still a trad but the unfortunate illusion of being progressive makes you all the more cruel and venemous bc you believe its righteous.
