Tax dollars funding the wrong program serving the wrong demographic. #HamOnt staff recommended addictions supports in the men's system & despite what the loudest advocates want, supervised drug consumption sites are not universally supported by experts. thespec.com/news/hamilton-…
Thank you for your opinion. This is what the "experts" have observed: Best evidence from cohort and modeling studies suggests that SISs are associated with lower overdose mortality (88 fewer overdose deaths per 100 000 person-years [PYs]), 67% fewer ambulance calls for treating overdoses, and a decrease in HIV infections. Effects on hospitalizations are unknown. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
I lived in Durand until recently and I stopped using the pedestrian underpass across from the YWCA after the safe supply program started because it was always full of addicts who were severely impaired. Then the city completely closed off the underpass. You can't walk through that area anymore and feel like you're not gonna get mugged. That's not a program success, it's a failure.
@JohnPaulDanko Advocates like to cherry pick their data, but the data that they choose to ignore also shows that culture is a more potent determinant of overdoses than treatment is. therecoveryvillage.com/resources/all-…
@JohnPaulDanko The wrong demographic? Not sure what that means?
@JohnPaulDanko Awaiting unanimous and universal expert concensus, is a recipe for policy paralysis.
@JohnPaulDanko Find me anything universally supported. Anywhere. Please for god’s sake listen to the people with lived experience. With the medical professionals (who include the former sometimes). HAMSMART is an excellent resource.
@JohnPaulDanko BTW, what’s the wrong demographic you speak of? Seriously.
@JohnPaulDanko When you say the "wrong demographic", do you mean the homeless drug users do not deserve help? What about other homeless people? What's the difference?
@JohnPaulDanko Can you please direct me to any singular policy, in the history of City Hall, that was met with universal support by all experts?
@JohnPaulDanko We have a system of care/advocacy that is not giving people the help they need; ideology rules. Our approach is way out of balance; investing heavily in harm reduction strategies while largely ignoring prevention, treatment & recovery.
