When a govt says it's considering taking rights from children with Special Needs, a minister doing the rounds saying he's ’not getting into the details’ has one effect. People feel scared. They lose sleep. Again: this is not how to do disability policy (or any policy)

A dangerously misleading presentation from ResearchED regular Peps Mccrea, which was circulated in May, and has already been analysed and severely criticised here: x.com/AdamHighcliffe…

In the end the Mccrea paper feels more like propaganda than evidence. Does this offer a route to genuinely inclusive education for SEND kids? Nope. Does it help to erode support for SEND & EHCPs? Yes. For SEND families, it's just another kick in the teeth. steplab.co/resources/incl…

Over & over in this paper, there seems little grasp of SEND kids. Notably it misunderstands how so many become "disconnected". There's a revulsion here about taking kids out of the room for interventions, when in reality they might build more confidence by doing just that. ⬇️

The pitch is broadly centred around regularised teaching & reduction in teacher workload. Yet in the support suggestions here, there are really only two endgames. Either the teacher becomes overwhelmed by the additional workload required, or the teacher cuts the SEND support. ⬇️

The misunderstanding of 'inclusive' by the New Technocrats in education is a key factor in the schools crisis. And sure enough, although this paper has some positive suggestions, these are lost in the strained attempts to reach a predetermined conclusion. For example... ⬇️

What would those cultures look like? The paper calls for an end to differentiated support approaches, & promotes enhanced TLAC-style practices: the very same ideology which is opposed by so many in SEND. A practice which alienates so many kids can never be inclusive. ⬇️

The finale is a sales pitch. In the context of persistent criticism & delegitimisation of professional diagnosis, this is effectively a call for childrens' needs to be defined by schools themselves. This would place every SEND child at the whim of local school cultures. ⬇️
