Students will hold more cognitively demanding jobs than ever before. They'll hold a greater number of jobs and many of those are in fields that have yet to be invented. Students will need to see importance in the content being addressed as well as in education as a whole.
Perhaps the most powerful aspect of a classroom organized around learning goals is that students can move at their own pace. If a student completes all learning goals, he begins working on goals at the next grade level and/or volunteers as a peer tutor.
When communicating about themselves to others, students might develop better
self-images simply by their willingness to share things they believe in. #NASOT#studentengagement
Note to principals: Every positive interaction that you have with a teacher builds social capital — and social capital matters most in a profession where “driving change” means “convincing people to walk alongside of you no matter how difficult the path may be.” #cpchat
These six questions are the heart of unit design. Teachers’ thoughtful answers to these questions help ensure that students will progress through a well-articulated continuum of knowledge that is integrated with the knowledge addressed in other units.
