Guide student choice. A teacher can ask these Qs: Relative to the topic we're studying, is there an important... Decision you want to examine? Problem you want to study? Hypothesis you'd like to test? Concept, past event, or hypothetical or future event you want to study?

Students will hold more cognitively demanding jobs than ever before. They'll hold a greater number of jobs and many of those are in fields that have yet to be invented. Students will need to see importance in the content being addressed as well as in education as a whole.

Perhaps the most powerful aspect of a classroom organized around learning goals is that students can move at their own pace. If a student completes all learning goals, he begins working on goals at the next grade level and/or volunteers as a peer tutor.
