I hope the Logistics Directors Forum is assesing the benefits of extended supply chains in light of the virus. I took part in a supply chain risk debate a few years ago and coined the phrase "Black Sky Thinking" and it would seem much of what I contributed has come home to roost

Productivity in manufacturing is simple to quantify/report as units made per man-hour. But within the service sector nobody is compiling data on units picked/shipped plus Company A in an old shed is forced to be different crom Company B in a new highbay automated shed

Productivity within the transport sector can only be achieved by tweaking the way we utilise our trucks. Fuel efficiencies add ro the bottom line but not to improved productivity as it should. Load-fill enhancements also adds to the bottom line but should be productivity related

The only way to improve productivity on these legacy warehouses is by introducing new ways of working, processes backed by WMS that has been fully configured to facilitate safe, fast picking using correct algorithms & diametrics.

In our industry which is part of the service sector I dont believe productivity is so bad. Brownfield warehouses are limited to what can be achieved due to the footprint of buildings & restrictions on internal height. Automation is almost impossible or cost prohibitive

Is the UK productivity model broken? Sick to death of hearing that our productivity in the UK is lagging behind everyone else. Facts are that the UK is mainly service industry biased, so how do we quantify productivity in this sector?

The problem: business growing well but staff increases mean congestion in the pick aisles, replenishments/putway causing problems, its now getting dangerous, you are thinking about a bigger warehouse. WRONG you call me & I show you how to grow in the same footprint. Boom sorted.
