I may have overdone the annual "this is an AP class and you will need to work hard" speech this year, cuz Ss trying to make help appointments on the second day is a record.

My Ss have coined "limitable"; as in "all differentiable functions are continuous but not all continuous are differentiable; all continuous are limitable but not all limitable are continuous." Maybe it's just May brain, but I find this the most adorable thing.

It was almost my year. Almost. Every year I do "variances only add" until I'm blue in the face and every year they subtract standard deviations. And this year I thought it'd sunk in... one student subtracted. One. Guess I'll take the new record, at least.

I had my 10th graders (in groups) to come up with as many representations of multiplication as possible. I said, "words, symbols, pictures, interpretive dance if you feel so moved." Not a single group drew any kind of picture. This bothers me on a level I can't quite articulate.

Apparently concert tickets for a variety of artists are about to go on sale. Any time I wasn't standing over kids they were whispering about pre-auth and how to time it right to actually get the tix. These are the kind of distractions ed "experts" never take into account.

So I'm thinking about starting a blog. I might actually have time to keep up with it this year (just jinxed myself), and I'm doing a lot of things that I want to talk about. People around me would probably be happy if I talked at an audience that cared instead of at them. #mtbos

My AP stats class this year is 10 students who just stare at me. Like teaching into the zoom black boxes, except in person. Simulations that usually work for discussion have landed with a thud. IDK what I'm going to do but I gotta get them to make noise.

Took the Geo class out to measure buildings with homemade clinometers. I don't think anyone would want to trust us as surveyors, but Ss did have an extended conversation about the main doors being "taller" than the lamppost and what had gone wrong, so I'm counting this a win.
