Here’s another one for my collection. In the street, a man who was behind me started mumbling into his phone, deliberately to be half-heard by me. ‘Look—he’s wearing a mask—he’s got the lurgies!. I should have told him it’s ‘lurgy’. The standard of education these days!

I was crossing the road to the other pavement. A cyclist riding on that pavement called out: ‘Muppet!’. Probably when he saw I was wearing a mask he was no doubt angry with himself, because he forgot his own mask and left it at home. #covidIsNotOver #covidisAirborne #covid

Another one for my collection: warning-but-don’t-worry-speak. Re ‘new’ danger from Covid. ‘There is concern but we are monitoring this closely.’ What is implied by monitoring? What does monitoring have to do with prevention?

Have I read correctly on the website the Government advice on Covid in the workplace? The boss is advised to take precautions, but they are not forced by Health and Safety. That’s a big area of danger to leave out.

Another comment on mask-wearing for my collection: ‘Take your mask off sir!’ From a passing cyclist in a sergeant-major’s voice as I was crossing the road. I wonder what his thinking was.
