#TreeTip: Though it might seem that large established trees can fend for themselves, all urban trees need care & attention. It can be hard for trees to take up enough water when soils are compacted or lack organic matter; or sustain during times of heat and drought.

#soilTip: Since compaction is such an issue in our #soil, minimize foot or equipment traffic. Avoid driving heavy machinery or vehicles over your lawn & especially at the base of trees in order to keep air spaces intact and don't pile construction debris at the base of trees.

You can have a big impact on the health of our #urbanforest simply by making good #tree planting choices. Diversity grows healthy forests. Think beyond Live Oak, Red Oak or hollies. Plant trees like Chinquipin Oak, Monterrey #Oak, Bald Cypress, or Red Maple, to name a few.

DYK? If you need a #tree trimmed & a power line clearance is less than 10', you MUST call your electric service provider first to report the pruning needs. Only their contracted arborist may prune close to power lines. We are NOT allowed to prune unless contracted by Oncor.

#TreeTip: Decaying wood can go unnoticed & undiagnosed by an untrained eye for years–but it can be very dangerous & change the course of a tree removal–or tree cause failure. Rely on an experienced certified #arborist to determine if there is dangerous decay in your tree.

#LawnTip: To ward off brown patch in your lawn or control the spread, don't apply high-nitrogen synthetic fertilizers. Instead, think about incorporating bio-fertilizers that feed the #soil & produce healthy plants.
