The point is not that this is the right way to learn this stuff. Sometimes we put unnecessary barriers when all it takes is to get your hands dirty with the tools you will be using daily. I didn't have a lot of time to learn this stuff, I was pushed to learn quickly.

If you don't learn equally from your "opponents" as your "allies", you're doing something wrong. And if you make disagreements personal, you're doing something wrong. This applies to finance, engineering, business, etc. Anything with objectively-measured results.
