Basically every 12 story building in Toronto has the same or more elevator doors as would be required for a subway platform (24)…nobody would say that the cost of elevator doors are too prohibitive…not even for buildings built before the 1950s…

Toronto has a perfect setup for a test install of platform doors, lower bay station is perfect to ask door manufactures to come and show test implementations…in other cities they build a platform simulator to do test installations and ensure quick and safe implementations

Sadly I think people are going to be extremely disappointed with the new Toronto light rail lines when they start operating. For years I remember making the case that a city that wouldn’t treat streetcars in a serious way downtown wouldn’t do it in the burbs…
