🧵6/8 The bigger lesson: When cloud providers offer something "free," ask "What's the catch?" The catch: They'll charge once you're hooked. Grace periods aren't gifts—they're migration windows.

After implementing 100s of these systems, here's what works: 1. Filter ruthlessly - if it generates more than 10 actionable alerts/day, you won't keep up 2. Controls as code - make the secure way the default way 3. Layer your defenses - proactive + preventive + detective
The problem isn't the tool. It's the implementation. Out-of-box compliance rules are like off-the-rack suits. They fit nobody perfectly. Your Lambda functions get flagged as "broken" while the actually risky IAM role goes unnoticed.
