I along with the other #ChiefEditors will not continue at the board of @JBiogeography after the end of this year. After resignation of @MNDlab and >95% of #AssociateEditors we tried to further push for #BetterPublishing. Alas, no happy end.

This! I am frankly so tired of the US-centric perspectives that dominate @AcademicChatter and would like to hear other voices, e.g. from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. We need more female voices like @tncvidya, representing scientists from other parts of the world.

Years in the making, my paper on #beehotels from my #phd is published ! Find out about how effective they are, which #bees use them & more here: link.springer.com/article/10.100… @CostasGarden #savethebees #ozpollinators #urbanecology #WomenInSTEM
Pollination evolution across angiosperms now published in @NewPhyt ! Our models show: - insect 🪰🪲pollination ancestral in most lineages - vertebrate 🐦🦇 pollination evolved multiple times - wind 🍃 pollination harder to reverse And more! 👇 nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/np…
Here's a really cool paper for all those who think the brain is a computer (it isn't, and hasn't evolved for computing). And those who think you can just add an additional computational layer on top to make our "lizard brains" better.

Please RT: We are looking for a motivated #postdoc to study #amphibian #microbiomes, #chytrid fungus and the microbial-immune interface. Come work with us at the Smithsonian with @BrianGratwicke and our collaborators @AmyEllison_UK @LGrayfer! 🐸🦠🍄 Apply by May 15th.
Here’s some hard working green bees for good luck 🍀
We are looking for a motivated undergraduate student that is interested in conducting research and outreach activities that are associated with an amphibian project in Panama!!🐸 #REU Please retweet and share with potential applicants!!
I made this years ago. I'm currently revamping it to put it in a two part animation series: 1. How do bee stingers work? 2. How did bee stingers evolve? Hint: There's an evolutionary explanation for why stingers look like Georgia O'Keeffe paintings.
Hey hey hey. You could come to the UMN Bee Lab and work with amazing creatures (bee and human).
La más pequeñita de las abejas de norteamérica, con sus casi 2 mm 🥺💚🐝

Fresh out of the kiln. Fossil mugs coming soon, too!
Just had a late afternoon stroll around the garden. It's overcast and cool and has been raining ALL day. Not much around, but saw a few hoverflies and this bedraggled bumblebee on a gourd flower. A good covering of #pollen! #Bees #Staffs #Pollination
Esto es loquísimo. Se han observado urracas construyendo su nido usando púas anti-aves (esas tiras con alambres que se colocan en ciertas infraestructuras para evitar que se posen las aves). Precisamente para eso, para evitar a otras aves y depredadores. Hilo ⬇️
Bird nests made from anti-bird spikes! 🤯 Even for me as a nest researcher, these are the craziest bird nests I've ever seen. Today my paper came out on this rebellious behaviour. And it's like telling a joke... A thread. 🧵
It's the start of #NationalMothWeek! As a #moth lover and scientist, I'll be posting a moth photo/video each day this week with cool facts about them. Here's the first, one of my favorites - Madagascar Sunset Moth (Chrysiridia rhipheus). Photo: J. Sullivan (L), anonymous (R).
There's no single right way to do science or mentor or be a research student. Celebrate diversity & find your own way. Ironically despite DEI a monolithic way of doing things seems to be getting pushed, esp in US. Scared students seeking advice on trivial things.@AcademicChatter

Our two excellent field assistants in #SvenssonLab this year: Noemi Spatola (from Sicily, Italy) and Cara Holt (from Sweden) doing the traditional dragonfly-on-the-nose pictures with a Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata) and a Green-eyed Hawker (Aeshna isoceles).
Some more pictures from the field work with Odonata the lovely summer of 2023, with our excellent internship students and field assistants in #SvenssonLab @Biology_LU @lunduniversity

Bonito caso de plasticidad fenotípica en una planta carnívora, sólo desarrolla hojas modificadas atrapa insectos cuando los nutrientes del suelo, especialmente el fósforo es bajo.
