Winter-esque before a big warmup next week
Here comes warmer temps.
Today vs yesterday's temperature. Since 11AM, it has been down and down.
Meteorological winter is in the book (Dec, Jan & Feb) and it went down as the coldest winter since 2020-2021.
It may be March, but later this afternoon through tomorrow feels like January
Peep the sunset on March 31st
A bit of a tug of war over the next week with mild surges, in between cooler reinforcements.
Warmest day since 12/31/24.
Not too shabby. 30s and 40s all week long. No large scale storm; however, a few showers are possible on Tuesday. Perhaps by Thursday showers are more widespread.
Highest gust I have seen so far is 63mph in North Adams. The energy is there aloft to see 60+ mph gusts esp through the Mohawk Valley down through the Capital Region and Western New England.
Some warmer news on this cold and blustery President's Day.
This is the pattern right through midweek, although winds should slowly ease each day...with today being the gustiest. Lake-effect snow showers continue right through tomorrow with the best risk N&W.
With sleet/freezing rain now, totals may be harder to gauge with accumulation being squashed.
Latest data continues to indicate very powerful winds tonight into tomorrow, with gusts up to 60mph. Ice/snow on branches and powerlines can enhance the risk of power outages.
Here comes the changeover. Sleet all across the Capital Region right now, as warmer air builds in aloft.
Messy today esp through the morning with a mix of sleet/freezing rain. By the afternoon, it's a change for the southern half of the area to rain, before wrapping up as snow showers this evening. Winds kick up to 45-60mph tonight through Monday. For now, just snow showers on Thur.
Here's a preview of 11AM tomorrow. If the ice holds on for an extended time across the Capital Region, like depicted here...then possibly major issues. If it's a quicker transition to plain rain, then less problematic. Difficult to pinpoint exactly where the worst icing sets up.
Window for snow will be this afternoon through tonight....before a transition tomorrow to sleet/freezing rain, and for some, plain rain. By tomorrow night, a brief period of snow may return.
