With the economic value at stake, it would be worthwhile to assemble a few standing bodies of experts to do very fast evaluations for new AI models so that the world doesn't need to rely on benchmarks that consist of math problems, trivia questions, & the vibes of people like me.
This paper finds LLMs' ability to understand that others have different beliefs (Theory of Mind) comes from 0.001% of their parameters. Break those specific weights & the model loses both its ability to track what others know AND language comprehension. Interesting implications.

Five years ago the frontier of LLM math/science capabilities was 3 digit multiplication for GPT-3. Now, frontier LLM math/science capabilities are evaluated through condensed matter physics questions. Anyone who thinks AI is slowing down is fatally miscalibrated.
A core challenge for AI ethics is that AI opens new opportunities and forms of life. Can AI art have value? Can human-AI relationships be meaningful? Should AI welfare count? These cut to very deep philosophical issues, and are hard to address within minimalist liberal frameworks
