Ontario:
‘We’re spending $73 million to accelerate construction that is impeding traffic into downtown from the west’
Also Ontario:
‘We’re spending over $2 billion to permanently make traffic worse into downtown from the west’
If you live in Toronto, this shouldn’t be acceptable to you no matter where you stand on bike lanes. Compelling the city to remove recently completed infrastructure, at Toronto taxpayer expense, and for the convenience of people who do not pay taxes here is abhorrent.
Cars & drivers are the problem. I drive alongside bike lanes daily and I'm super thankful for them. The number of bad, selfish drivers? That's the issue. Driving skills have tanked, private vehicles getting orders for people & food suddenly u-turning/stopping/blocking is fubar.

@BradMBradford One minute you’re complaining about government ineffective and being slow to get things done, now you want meticulous, slow, case by case planning on basic infrastructure like a bike lane.
Talking out both sides of your mouth.
Meanwhile. Bloor West bike lanes hums.
@g_meslin@ParthiKandavel While city council debates, science centre staff have been instructed to remove exhibits
Small ones are being placed on skids with larger ones dismantled and left on the floor
Take down the fences
Open the doors
Staff would rather welcome visitors than dismantle Ontario's legacy
As I suspected, the @fordnation Gov't has manufactured a crisis to justify shuttering the Ontario Science Centre's iconic building. Elsa Lam, writing in Canadian Architect magazine, expertly deconstructs the Government's case.

A great article about a problem that’s only getting worse - the idea of a building having a fixed life expectancy is absurd, and was driven by depreciation as related to taxes, and has been co-opted to allow for these other kinds of arguments.

This opinion piece reminds me of the type of people who throw their clothes out instead of washing & re-wearing.
Is the plan to spend hundreds of millions every 50 years to build new facilities, let it fall into disrepair & then do it again ad nauseam??

Matlow: “For a fraction of the cost of paying off the beer store, Ford could fix the roof and keep the science centre open for years to come. So why is he doing this? Why is he destroying the things we value??”
If you see anyone saying the redevelopment of the Science Centre will provide housing, please know that Toronto already worked out a plan to develop the Science Centre's (Toronto-owned) parking lots for housing & a school.

The Ontario government is shutting the Science Centre today citing an engineer’s report – which does *not* say the place must close or that all work is urgent. What a betrayal.
I cannot emphasize enough how refreshing this is compared to the apologetic language of Toronto high-rise architecture. Blue window wall hiding behind a bulky “human scale” podium.

“Whether we want it to happen or not, people are going to move to Toronto. You do nothing by planting your throne on the beach and saying ‘I’m going to hold back the tide,’” says Perks. He says the right approach is smart planning to accommodate growth
No bike lanes on Bathurst street and it's still bumper to bumper traffic.
Bicycles and bike lanes don't cause traffic, personal vehicles *are* the traffic. #BikeTO
