“In my 44 years living here, I have seen that many of my neighbors have been displaced from their homes because the rent increases always go up more than yearly wages,” says Eloiza, a DC tenant testifying at today’s #RentControl hearing.
“I have seen how voluntary agreements and buyout payments pit neighbor against neighbor. This just happened in my building last year,” says Ameshia, a DC tenant testifying in support of #RentControl at today’s hearing.
“I think Rent Control is a key to stable housing because there are so many people like me who live paycheck to paycheck.” -Beatrice, a long-time DC tenant in support of #RentControl.
“Everything we are trying to get rid of, from Voluntary Agreements to the additional 2% increase, are actively leading to the displacement of the working class and low-income people,” says Veronica Mosqueda, at today’s #RentControl hearing.

“Everything we are trying to get rid of, from Voluntary Agreements to the additional 2% increase, are actively leading to the displacement of the working class and low-income people,” says Veronica Mosqueda, at today’s #RentControl hearing.

“I have seen how voluntary agreements and buyout payments pit neighbor against neighbor. This just happened in my building last year,” says Ameshia, a DC tenant testifying in support of #RentControl at today’s hearing.
“In my 44 years living here, I have seen that many of my neighbors have been displaced from their homes because the rent increases always go up more than yearly wages,” says Eloiza, a DC tenant testifying at today’s #RentControl hearing.

We have been calling for cash assistance for all excluded workers- defined as ineligible for federal stimulus and UI - SINCE APRIL. We were not always heard in our multi-racial, intersectional demand to leave no one behind. Our coalition has always been consistent #dontexcudeme

Her amendment would clarify that the aid that has already been set aside to help workers who don't otherwise get financial benefits would go to undocumented residents AND excluded workers, like day laborers and the such. Currently, aid would only go to undocumented residents.
