I’ve been asked to write a thread on how retail traders can get started in Quant Trading, and what to do without an institutional setup. There’s a lot to learn, so please don’t complain later that I didn’t warn you! 🧵
The initial expectation with systematic trading is to print money whilst you sleep, but the reality can be far from that. The benchmark for trend indices (cib.societegenerale.com/fileadmin/indi…) has a sharpe ratio of 0.2…you still wanting to do this?
@ThePythonQuant Thanks for the 🧵. If you have time could you elaborate a little on the "why" PnL modelling/simulation is paramount in your opinion?
@ThePythonQuant All of this stres for what if's and maybe not's for a future with no clear industrial result. It's a board game for big boys. I think excelling in a real nish profession with consistent demand and high return cycle not effected by crisis is the way to go. Be a surgent instead
@ThePythonQuant A Quant told me you need 1 million in capital AND connections to get properly set up on an exchange. This is his response when I asked him if he could get to 1 million dollars starting with 1000 + his 2 decades of financial quant knowledge and math phd
