This satellite is jaw-dropping! Hurricane Erin's size and subsequent windfield are rapidly expanding. Just look at that beast churning just off shore of the SE US. We are so fortunate that this will not make a direct landfall, but still big impacts for coastal NC & Mid-Atlantic

#ERIN’s passage north of Puerto Rico has cooled the ocean by as much as 2°C. ERIN used up a ton of warmer water near the surface, allowing for colder waters below to rise to the surface — something we typically see with strong or slow-moving hurricanes.

#Hurricane #Erin continues to rapidly intensify and now has a minimum central pressure of 923 hPa. Since 1979, only Hurricane Allen in 1980 had a lower Atlantic hurricane minimum central pressure by 16 August. Lower pressure = stronger hurricane.
