@CdffCycleCity @cardiffcouncil We’ve had considerable success in Merthyr with removing the barriers. Council officers with a desire to create equal access and set aside police objections is key.
@petitecycliste @Wheels4Well Lots of ways. Less extreme and more common example: My 84 year old mum uses her e-bike daily. She would seriously struggle to wheelie it through that barrier even without luggage. The worst thing: Those barriers don't actually stop scrambler bikes.
@Fishnpeas @Wheels4Well That's not remotely true. Many of these block larger chairs and mobilit scooters, and even when they don't, steering a powerchair through a gap with less than an inch of clearance either side is no mean feat.
@benjyminty @QM2fan @Wheels4Well Spot on. The only organisation that can put such a barrier on a right of way is the highway authority, using Section 66 of the 1980 Highways Act. Anyone else is criminally obstructing highway. All highway authorities have statutory duty under Equality Act to avoid discrimination
